Auto Body

Nominating Curator: Kimberly Marrero

Auto Body, a monumental convergence of over 40 women artists, presents performativity as a powerful vehicle for transcendence, movement and transformation. By examining the political and economic inequalities of the art world and beyond, Auto Body serves as a platform for a diverse female voice. Auto Body focuses on time-based practices presenting the body as language.

Following its debut in December 2014 at Giant Motors, a defunct auto body shop in Miami Beach, the exhibition makes its first international stop at Faena Art Center Buenos Aires. Fostering a transnational dialogue between women curators and artists on both a local and international level, Auto Body Buenos Aires will include new works by 9 Argentine artists selected by a local curatorial committee, comprised of Ximena Caminos (Executive Director of Faena Art Center), Larisa Zmud (Founder and Co-director of Slyzmud Gallery), and Vivi Tellas (Independent Curator and Theatre Director). New artists include: Cecilia Bengolea, Rosario Blefari, Adriana Bustos, Jimena Croceri, Ana Gallardo, Silvia Gurfein, Marina Mariasch / Máquina de Lavar, Karina Peisajovich, and Diana Szeinblum.

The project’s first iteration, produced by Spinello Projects, featured works by 35 international female artists nominated by 26 international female curators and selected by a Miami local curatorial committee, comprised of Ximena Caminos, Tami Katz-Freiman (Independent Curator, former Chief Curator, Haifa Museum of Art), Brandi Reddick (Curator/Artists Manager for Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places), and Chana Budgazad Sheldon (Executive Director, Locust Projects).
